Oil Just Tripled the Fed's Rate-Hike Odds

Gold Hovers Near $4,100 as the Score Holds at 5 for a Second Day

Thursday, July 23, 2026

TRADER'S BRIEF

  • The Supercycle Score held at 5/100, "Ludicrous Headwind," a second straight session in the floor band, as the dollar (UUP) eased fractionally to 28.45 (-0.11%) but stayed pinned at 94.91% of its 52-week range, down only a touch from Tuesday's fresh cycle high of 96.30%.

  • Precious metals extended their run for a second straight day: gold (GLD) rose +1.15% to 379.12 (spot hovering near $4,100/oz), silver (SLV) added +1.58% to 53.92, both confirming GREEN trends again.

  • Fed-funds futures traders priced a nearly 34% chance of a rate hike at the July 28-29 meeting Wednesday, up sharply from just 10% a week earlier, as oil's climb on escalating Middle East tensions feeds inflation fear rather than growth fear.

  • Nasdaq (QQQ) was the board's only RED name, down -0.51% heading into after-the-bell earnings from Tesla and Alphabet; the S&P 500 (SPY) slipped a smaller -0.12% and stayed YELLOW.

  • Copper (CPER) fell -0.71% and cooled to YELLOW after an extended green run, the same rollover pattern that briefly hit corn and soybeans this week; both grains reconfirmed GREEN today (corn +1.50%, soybeans +1.01%).
