Palladium Rips 7% as Oil's Slide Extends to Day Two
Platinum Follows With a 6.6% Jump While Stocks Hit Fresh Records
Wednesday, August 5, 2026
TRADER'S BRIEF
Palladium (PALL, +7.31%) and platinum (PPLT, +6.64%) shot higher, both confirming GREEN, as South African supply-disruption reports hit an already-hot PGM market.
Crude (USO, -5.19%) extended Monday's -5.46% drop for a second straight session, a two-day, roughly 10% cumulative slide, as the Iran ceasefire holds and OPEC+'s reported September output hike keeps adding supply-side pressure.
The S&P (SPY, +1.80%) closed above 771 for a second straight record, and the Nasdaq (QQQ, +3.40%) confirmed GREEN with its sharpest single-day gain of the stretch.
The dollar (UUP) closed essentially flat at 28.16 for a third straight session, holding the Supercycle Score at 20/100 ("Strong Headwind") — but its own trend reading flipped from red back to yellow, its first stall in the slide.
Silver (SLV, +2.63%) and gold (GLD, +0.66% on the board; live spot near $4,217, up over 1.5% overnight) both confirmed GREEN, with copper (CPER, +1.26%) holding the board's steadiest uptrend at posture 93.
