The Dollar Snaps Back
Not a Single Board Name Closes Green
Friday, July 17, 2026
Trader's Brief
The Supercycle Score falls to 10/100, "Strong Headwind", down from Thursday's 14, as the dollar erased most of its three-day slide in a single session, jumping to 89.8% of its 52-week range from Wednesday's 85.6%.
For the first time this run, zero of the twelve board names closed green. Four rolled to red: gold, silver, soybeans, and the Nasdaq. The other eight sat mixed.
Metals took the worst of it: silver fell 3.49%, palladium 4.11%, platinum 3.29%, and gold 1.98%, the sharpest one-day metals drawdown of this run.
Oil's Hormuz-war rally stalled: WTI topped $80/bbl intraday for a fourth straight session after fresh US airstrikes near Bandar Abbas, but USO still closed the day down 1.71%, a genuine fade.
Fed-hike odds for the July 28-29 meeting were slashed to roughly 11% (from about 45% at the start of the week) on cooling inflation data, yet the dollar firmed anyway as war-driven safe-haven demand overrode the rate story.
