Houthis Torch a Saudi Refinery as the Fed's Wednesday Meeting Looms
Monday, July 27, 2026
TRADER'S BRIEF
The Supercycle Score ground down to 0/100, "They've Gone to Plaid," the literal floor of the model and a second straight session in the most extreme band on record, as the dollar (UUP) inched up just 0.07% to 28.58, pinning it at 99.54% of its 52-week range.
Over the weekend, Houthi forces struck Saudi Aramco's Jizan and Yanbu facilities Saturday, setting the Jizan refinery ablaze, the first direct Houthi attack on Saudi oil infrastructure in roughly four years. Friday's close predates the attack; Monday's session is the first test of how oil reacts.
Precious metals actually firmed after Thursday's rout: gold (GLD) rose 0.10% to 371.90 (spot near $4,056/oz), silver (SLV) added 1.02% to 52.59, both reconfirming GREEN.
Nasdaq (QQQ) was the board's weakest name, down 1.12% and RED; the S&P 500 (SPY) was roughly flat, +0.10%, and stayed YELLOW.
Wednesday's FOMC decision is now two trading days away, with fed-funds futures pricing roughly a 46.5% chance of a hike, up from about 34% a week earlier, a fresh cycle high in the odds.
