The Score Just Went to Plaid
Oil Clears $100 as the Dollar Hits a Fresh High and Gold Gets Crushed
Friday, July 24, 2026
TRADER'S BRIEF
The Supercycle Score cratered to 1/100, "They've Gone to Plaid," the lowest reading and most extreme band on record in this letter's history, as the dollar (UUP) surged +0.39% to 28.56 after printing a fresh intraday 52-week high of 28.59, pinning it at 98.63% of its 52-week range.
Oil (USO) rocketed +5.93% to 139.49 as Brent crude cleared $100 a barrel for the first time in two months and WTI settled near $92, after Houthi forces struck Saudi tankers in the Red Sea and widened the Middle East conflict that has now run more than a week.
Precious metals reversed hard: gold (GLD) fell -2.00% to 371.52 (spot sliding to roughly $4,060/oz, its worst day in weeks), silver (SLV) dropped -3.45% to 52.06, both flipping from confirmed GREEN to YELLOW.
Equities sold off broadly on the oil shock and a rough earnings slate: Nasdaq (QQQ) fell -1.90% and turned RED after Alphabet dropped roughly 7% and Tesla roughly 14% on their reports; the S&P 500 (SPY) slipped -1.23%, also RED.
Copper (CPER), palladium (PALL), and platinum (PPLT) all rolled over alongside the metals complex; only crude, nat gas, and corn held any green on a board where eight of twelve names moved lower.
